Research on military tactical thinking noted by the swedish officers’ Magazine

Our recent article “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the most offensive of them all? – Explaining the offensive bias in military tactical thinking” in Defence Studies has received the attention by the Swedish Officers’ magazine “Officerstidningen”. About

Dr Mikael Weissmann is Associate Professor in War Studies and Head of Research- and Deputy Head of the Land Operations Section at the Swedish Defence University. He is the convenor of the Land Warfare Research Group (LWRG) and co-convenor of the Hybrid Warfare Research Group (HWRG) and the Asian Security and Strategy Research Group (ASSRG). He is also a member of CSCAP-EU.

Weissmann’s research focuses on security, strategy and warfare.

His expertise includes:

– Military operations and tactics
– Military tactical thinking,
– Hybrid threats- and warfare
– Intelligence analysis
– Land Tactics
– China and East Asian security and strategy broadly defined

His research on China and East Asia focuses on China’s foreign policy and role in the world, with a special focus on China and Global Power Shifts. He has a particular interest in:

– the Belt and Road initiative
– Energy
– the South China Sea
– the North Korean nuclear conflict
– the Taiwan Issue
– Sino-Russian relations

Weissmann has also pursued research on track-two diplomacy, conflict management and peacebuilding as well as Europe’s relations with China and East Asia.
